Horoscopes for the 2019 Solar Eclipse in Cancer

Collage by Chani

Here are horoscopes for the first two weeks of July 2019, starting with the total Solar Eclipse, a new moon, in Cancer. Your Solar Eclipse Horoscopes are meant to be read as inspiration. If you know both your rising sign and sun sign, please read both horoscopes. They both contain important information. You’ll know which resonates more for you. Take what works for you, leave the rest. If you want to share this work, you must quote it and link it to this post and website. Thank you for your support and for spreading the work, we really appreciate it and you!

July 2

12:16 PM PT – Total Solar Eclipse New Moon at 10° of Cancer

Eclipse Season brings clarity. It reminds us that we are too old, too wise, and too capable to keep playing small in the ways that we are. Being afraid is no excuse for not trying. Being inexperienced is no reason not to go to the lengths we must to get a little time in the saddle. Being green and growing is far more powerful than sitting on the sidelines, choking with envy.

Eclipses signal times of great openings and closings. Beginnings and endings. Light and shadow. They are pattern-setting times. With July’s eclipses, we will set the structures for future life events to unfold within.

Work with them to be as true to yourself as you can be.

Urging us to cut the fat, honor our limits, and let go of what is taking up too much space in our psyche, these eclipses ask us to do what is far from easy, but completely plausible. Pointing out the places where we have let our loneliness, shame, pain, or guilt remain unconscious, the first eclipse on July 2nd illustrates, in large part, how to hold what hurts. Doing so is how the pain we carry lessens, reveals its meaning, or simply has a place to be.

Covering up hard to feel feelings is a very important survival strategy at certain stages of our life, but one that mostly fails us as we journey through these shadowlands. Right now we are asked to understand in greater depth what we generally push into the closets of our unconscious. The things about ourselves we have been told are unloveable, unacceptable, and unconscionable get aired out. Getting a chance to be repurposed or perhaps reborn.

On July 2, at 12:16 PM PT, the second of four north node eclipses in Cancer occurs (the first was in July 2018, and the last will be in June 2020). This is a total solar eclipse, meaning that astrologically it is as significant as it is astronomically. The sun is completely eliminated from sight, and something else is revealed; something rarely experienced in regular light.

An eclipse close to the north node teaches us about what we hunger for, get greedy about, desire, and possibly destroy in order to attain. Cancer is the caregiver of the zodiac and eclipses here reveal the kind of tender tending to that we crave. What we are starving for must be fed. Bearing witness to the needs that were either skimmed over, or ignored entirely, as a child is potent medicine. This eclipse in Cancer is about tapping into what we can give to ourselves and doing so.

The last time we had eclipses on the north node in Cancer was in the year 2000. July’s eclipses may be linked in some way to what was happening in your life then. They may also be linked to or build upon the events of last July. Repeated activation of the part of your chart that contains Cancer means that these are years for you to get to know this part of your chart and life with great care and consideration.

July 3

Venus enters Cancer, where it remains until July 27, 2019

In Cancer, Venus helps to repair some of the wounds the eclipse may have opened up for us. Venus helps to smooth things over, sweeten the situation, and be a spoonful of honey for the medicine that must go down. Relationship dynamics focus on connection and care now, especially with ourselves. Bake yourself a cake. Make your friends dinner. Send your loves home with sweets.

This first week or so of Venus’s swim through Cancer are sweet, but waters won’t remain calm for long. Relationship issues will focus on boundaries and power struggles soon enough.

July 7

Mercury stations retrograde at 4° of Leo; will station direct at 23° of Cancer on July 31, 2019

As Mercury does an about face, it backs up into Mars, making the beginning of this retrograde a little too hot to handle. Arguments might happen with others, but what’s more important to pay attention to are the things that get you heated. Underneath anger is usually a really good reason for it, though not always one that is about the present moment. If you feel the need to fight, make sure you are connected to your reasons for doing so. Clarity is key when working with something potentially poisonous.

July 8

Venus in Cancer sextile Uranus in Taurus, both at 6°

This part of today’s astrology is all a flutter. Unexpected flirtations abound. Here, Venus yearns for something unconventional and we are all challenged to do pleasure a little differently. Step out of the norm to get your needs met.

Mercury Rx conjunct Mars in Leo at 4°

This transit is temporary, but whatever bad behaviours our tempers tempt us into will have to be revisited, as Mercury will move back over these degrees come mid August. Don’t say it out loud if you won’t mean it for long, but definitely vent to a trusted source. Dear Diary this day.

July 9

Sun in Cancer opposes Saturn Rx in Capricorn, both at 17°

Tough on the more tender of us, the sun’s opposition to Saturn looks sternly at our homework. These are not days you want to be late to work, although they are days you might feel too heavy to lift yourself out of bed in the morning. But the proverbial (and probably literal) pets need to be fed, watered and walked. You don’t have to enjoy your tasks to get them done, but doing them helps you find purpose in their fulfillment.

July 10

Sun in Cancer trine Neptune Rx in Pisces, both at 18°

This sweet pit-stop for the sun is much appreciated during eclipse season. Today’s skies sing soothing songs that promote healing dreams. Sleep, relax and unwind. Let this day make you porous to what restores you.

July 11

Mars in Leo square Uranus in Taurus, both at 6°

Today’s astrology is riotous. Rebelling is a skill to cultivate, and when implemented with a cause it is an incredible wand to wield. These skies will tend to interrupt our day, throw a wrench in the works, or get us to flip a table.

July 14

Sun in Cancer opposes Pluto Rx in Capricorn, both at 21°

Because the next eclipse is moments from occurring (July 16th), today’s transit feel extra deep. The implications of this transit are long lasting, meaning that what we do during these days is impactful. Pluto takes us on trips down under, excavating deeply buried truths, sometimes in the form of obsession, power-plays and control, but for most of us, today will feel like it lightly or cathartically drags us. A little truth is good for the system, but too much leaves us raw, sensitive and exposed. Try to give yourself some tough love today. The next few days will be less difficult if you do.

Aries & Aries Rising

Family is who I choose to love and learn to show up for. Home is where I choose to be and I learn to care for myself while there. Hearts are healthier when they know where they will be appreciated and protected, so I make sure to let mine know that place is here. Always. Unconditionally. No matter what I’ve done in my past, I forgive myself for not knowing any better. No matter what choices I made along my path, I love myself enough to learn what I need to know now. No matter what foundations I am missing, I remember that I am competent enough to build myself a place to be and wise enough to ask for help when I don’t know how.

With this eclipse, I commit to caring for the well-being of my inner life. With this eclipse, I recognize the energetic power bound in my shame and past pain and I do what I need to release it. With this eclipse I know that making my hurt more conscious makes it possible to move through it, make things from it, and make a life no matter the amount of it. With this eclipse I come into my own, a little more loved than before.

Taurus & Taurus Rising

Eclipse season teaches me all the many ways in which the course of my life is unfolding exactly as it should. My trajectory is as uncertain as the next person’s but my intention is not. I wrap my efforts around my aim. I feel connected to the things I am striving for or I don’t spend energy on them. Right now my ability to communicate my message is incredibly important. I don’t pass up a chance to tell my tale, teach what I am learning, and point to those that have taught me well.

Disruption is a part of getting my message across and it is a cost I can afford. Part of getting more honest with myself is getting to interrupt and break up with the parts of me that have gotten complacent, overly-cautious, or conservative. I come to the important conversations of my days, including the ones I have with myself, with as much clarity as possible.

I sit down and put pen to paper knowing how much I need to get my ideas down. To map them out. To mark my destinations with my determination. To make my dreams into a reality I must continue to carve out time, a little everyday, to investigate the doubts I have about my ability to achieve them. The shadows cast during these eclipses offer the best light to see my own fears for what they are –  insignificant in the face of my potential.

Gemini & Gemini Rising

Eclipse Season reminds me to invest in my well being. Spend time, money, and energy granting my needs a moment of recognition. A dollar spent on my healing, hopes, and dreams is an astoundingly beautiful investment with infinite returns.

Right now I am encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of my worth. The value of my labor goes up when I give it the respect it is due. Asking for a fair exchange is part of my job, equal to providing a quality service. When I come with my best efforts I have the ability to also come with my desired price. One doesn’t do well without the other.

Any challenging conversations that these weeks bring up need to be worked through wisely. Anytime I want to fight, I also consider if this is the right battle to pick. If it is, I do so unapologetically. With a commitment to the truth and telling it without feeling the need to embellish it. When I’m honest, there’s no need to force the meaning of my message. I let it speak for itself.

Cancer & Cancer Rising

May I recognize myself. May I know who I am. May I remember just how sneaky my self-sabotaging ways tend to be. May I be reminded how capable my heart is to heal from the wounds of my past. May I refuse to let my shame, my abandonment issues, and insecurities control my narrative. They may be part of my experience, my moment, or my lineage, but I don’t have to mistake them for the whole of my truth. May I learn to leave situations where my gifts are used up, but my being isn’t appreciated. I know the world is skilled at praising and condemning me while completely misunderstanding my meaning, but I don’t have to follow suit.

With this eclipse may I appreciate my efforts, seek to understand my needs a little more, and never give up on getting underneath the more challenging of self-doubt systems. The scars deeply embedded in my psyche may tell me I am in a battle, but I try my best to understand what is just a reverberation of wars long-gone and what is a present moment predicament. The difference between the two can turn a difficult day into an entryway to self-acceptance.

Unless I witness the impact of what I have survived, I won’t understand the weight I carry because of it, or the parts of it that I can now put down. May I leave eclipse season a little less armored and a little more open to nourishing myself with the love I crave.

Leo & Leo Rising

Right now, what happens behind the scenes is more important than what the world can see. Even though I have much to show for my past efforts, what I am working on in private is potent and precious enough to need my protection. I serve it sincerely. I am devoted to it completely. I am learning the power of playing to the crowd while coveting what is still in rehearsal.

It’s healing to know what to keep for myself.

The new moon/solar eclipse sets the stage for the next chapter of my journey. It reveals the hidden scripts my mind so often runs through. It exposes my less helpful habits. I makes the unconscious conscious. Though this can sometimes be a startling gift, I know that it is one not to be taken for granted.

I am willing to love myself more than I fear being alone with myself. I am willing to embrace my less socially acceptable parts in order to embrace the power in them. I welcome any knowledge about myself as both enlightening and a way to praise the messy in me. I’m not striving for perfect, just a deeper understanding of my process.

Virgo & Virgo Rising

Those that I gather around are teaching me what community care looks like. I know that in order for wellness to be a lived experience, we all need spaces where it is reflected back to us. I know that I need to find rooms where I can cry and come into my power. Spaces where I can bear witness to the impact of suffering that others have endured. Halls where we are all allowed to be broken and coming back together. Gatherings where there are as many solutions for us as there are problems we face.

I need to know I am not alone in my suffering, self-doubt, or my astoundingly stubborn capacity to heal. I need my resilience mirrored back to me, my problem solving skills pointed out, and my capacity for love lifted up.

I am human, which means I am more than likely going to forget the things that I find helpful when I need assistance. I benefit from constant reminders from those who have been where I am and worse, did what I need to do and more, couldn’t love themselves as they were but found a way to do so anyway. With the first eclipse of July, I promise to keep finding the groups that care enough about themselves individually to make spaces to love on each other communally.

Libra & Libra Rising

What I am working on now, in my personal and professional lives, carries with it the ability to make a long-lasting impact. Any amount of care that I can cultivate for my work goes an incredibly long way. I create spaces where kindness can thrive in the world, starting with myself. How I show myself love when in public does more than just make me feel good. Modeling how to be gentle and generous while being productive and professional impacts my entire system while shifting the industries I am a part of.

I don’t diminish the impact of what my work does in the world, but I also don’t confuse it with who I am. If anything I do leaves a positive mark here, it’s because I was able to channel the energy of love and liberation with some success. My life is made more beautiful when I become a conduit for it.

Eclipse season gives me ample opportunities to deal with issues big and small in my public and private life. The shifts that occur now help me to unearth the proverbial pebble in my shoe. What gets uncovered can be worked on so I am grateful for anything that comes up for healing.

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising

I immerse myself in the philosophies, traditions, and practices that address the kinds of struggles I’m in. I seek out the systems that give soulful solutions to the problems I grapple with. I know that unless I get myself to the places that put tools for success in my path, it will be much harder to stumble upon them. I know that thoughtfully outwitting myself is a way towards sustainable self-care, so I make my destination one that centers my need for healing, my appetite for joy, and my dedication to pleasure. If the mere thought of where I am going and how I am getting there doesn’t bring me joy, I most likely won’t move much.

Eclipse season brings me many reasons to look at my grand plans and make sure they align with my heart’s hopes for a life well-lived. No one ever got to their death bed and wished they hadn’t been kind to themselves and others. There’s no way for me to regret creating any and all places and spaces where collectively we feel appreciated, witnessed, supported and safe. There’s no telling how many opportunities open for me when I focus on what care I can give, rather than what gains I can get. With this eclipse, I reorient my energy, focus, and aim on what is healing, holy, and encouraging of my connection to feeling good through caring well for my life and my world.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising

I don’t hesitate to let those that I collaborate with know how much I appreciate them. I know that nothing lasting comes out of situations where others feel unappreciated, unseen, or unacknowledged. It’s inconsiderate to partner with others in ways that make them feel otherwise.

I am never cheap with my care. I know that if someone feels a lack within themselves I can offer them a different reflection, but I can’t force them to see themselves in another way. All I can do is mirror the kindness I wish the world to contain. All I can do is come to my own feelings of inadequacy with the kind of compassion that was lacking earlier in life. All I can do is honor my commitments and refill any resources that are running low. This eclipse season is a marathon, one that when done with me will give me an entirely new appreciation for my efforts, talents, and ways I work with them. In the process I try not to take myself for granted. I try to give myself every opportunity possible to clarify my professional purpose, knowing full well that if something or someone fails me, it’s best I know now so I can keep moving on without the dead weight.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising

Overextending myself is one way I have learned to protect my heart. Going past my limits is a way of keeping people at a distance. Giving others what they need without checking in with myself about whether or not I want to give it to them is a surefire way to avoid intimacy. Unless I let others know what I can’t do and what I don’t want to take on, I am not allowing them to really know me. I am not allowing them to show me who they are. I am not allowing myself to take up the space that only a sincere “no” can.

It also cheats me out of a sincere yes. Without being able to set a boundary, I can’t let as much abundance in. Eclipse season is teaching me to be more courageous in my asks, less fearful about saying no to what feels too much, less averse to living within my means. What I cut out, or pass on, leaves more space for what I am asking for, what I am setting intentions for, and what I am directing my life towards. It might bring up a million and one feelings while doing so, but I’ve got space in myself and massive amounts of compassion in my heart to love myself through them.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising

I know that how I work on what I work on makes all the difference. I know that how I work with who I work with does as well. I can’t expect the world to offer me its finest if I can’t give mine consistently. I forfeit the right to complain when I only offer my whining to my industry.

I work with this eclipse season to find solutions. Professional. Personal. Interpersonal. I work with this eclipse season by offering my devotion to my projects. I work with this eclipse season by caring enough for my own well-being to give myself a little tough love when necessary.

I am not swayed by the changing tides of my emotional life. I know that if I have a goal, part of getting to it is working through the inevitable resistance along its path. I know that just feeling like doing something will never get it done. Instead I focus on where I have professional power: my habits. I make a habit out of giving my best effort daily. I make a habit out of not berating myself when that differs day-to-day. I make a habit of not mistaking the waxing and waning of my energy for an excuse to give up. I refuse to falter. I refuse to entertain doubt that has no logic. I recall my energy to any and all past circumstances that I lost it to. No matter what I didn’t accomplish in years past, I am more than capable of calling out my self-doubt and asking it to explain itself so I can get to the good work of proving it wrong.

Pisces & Pisces Rising

Love is never leaving my creativity in the lurch. Care is knowing not to criticize my creations when they are up against a block. Kindness is channeling self-doubt into being thoughtfully inquisitive about what else might work.

I know that learning to trust my creative process is akin to learning how to trust myself. It happens a little at a time. I know that learning to appreciate my more misshapen creations is just as important as praising my more stunning ones. Everything I learn in the process of putting myself out there is valuable, whether I win or wind up back at the drawing board. I know that I can’t control when my moments will arrive, but I can practice showing up for them by giving my all to everything else along the way.

With this eclipse season, I practice studying my shame so I can outsmart it with honesty. I practice surprising my fear by finding all ways possible to try again at what didn’t work but has potential. I know that it’s not about what I get from my creations, but what I give to them. I can’t fake depth, so if I want what I make to have it, I have to live it.
